Parent Visa Roadmap — AVC Migration
AVC Migration

A clear, step-by-step guide to bringing your parents to Australia

What happens from here: From your first call to the day your parent becomes a permanent resident — here is every step of the journey and exactly what to expect at each one.
Phase 1 — Engagement
01

Detailed Strategy Session

We assess your eligibility, explain all available parent visa pathways and give you an honest picture of costs, timelines and likelihood of success — before you commit to anything.

Service Agreement

We send you our formal Service Agreement. Once signed, we lodge Form 956 with the Department of Home Affairs, formally authorising AVC Migration to act as your registered migration agent.

Phase 2 — Preparation & Lodgement
03

Collect Information & Documents

We send you a personalised checklist of everything needed — identity documents, financial evidence, health insurance, sponsor documents and more. We guide you through every item.

04

Prepare the Application

We build the complete application package — forms, supporting documents, statutory declarations. Once ready, we send it to you for review and approval. Nothing is lodged without your sign-off.

05

Lodge Application

We lodge the application on your behalf through the ImmiAccount portal. From this point, all correspondence with the Department of Home Affairs is managed entirely by our office.

Milestone — After Lodgement
Onshore applicants

Bridging Visa A granted

Your parent can remain in Australia lawfully while the visa processes — with no requirement to leave. Your family stays together from this point forward.

Offshore applicants

Acknowledgement issued

Your parent receives an acknowledgement confirming the application is lodged. They remain offshore until the temporary visa (SC 309) is granted — then they can travel to Australia.

Phase 3 — Processing & Outcome
07

Processing Period

Parent visas are among the longest-processing visas in Australia. Processing times vary by subclass and are not published in advance. We monitor your application, respond to any Departmental requests and keep you updated throughout.

08

Permanent Visa Granted

Your parent is a permanent resident of Australia. They can live, work and access Medicare in Australia indefinitely — and apply for citizenship after four years.
