Course Fees — How to Calculate

Example 1: Course = AUD 50,000 for 3 years
→ 50,000 ÷ 3 = AUD 16,666/year. Deduct any pre-paid amounts.

Example 2: Course = AUD 15,000 for 10 months, pre-paid AUD 5,000
→ 15,000 − 5,000 = AUD 10,000.

Example 3: Course = AUD 20,000 for 18 months
→ (20,000 ÷ 18) × 12 = AUD 13,333/year. Deduct any pre-paid amounts.

If already in Australia and your course has commenced, calculate the fee payable for the 12-month period from the date you lodge your application.
Schooling Costs

School-aged children in your visa application require a minimum of AUD 13,502 per year per child.

You are responsible for researching actual schooling costs, which vary between states, territories and schools in Australia.

Exceptions — you do not need to provide evidence of schooling costs if you:

  • Are a PhD student and have enrolled your child in an Australian government school where fees are waived, or
  • Received an Australian Commonwealth Government scholarship (including Foreign Affairs/Defence) and have enrolled your child in a government school where fees are waived.
Travel Costs

Applying outside Australia:

  • Standard: AUD 2,000
  • East or Southern Africa: AUD 2,500
  • West Africa: AUD 3,000

Applying inside Australia:

  • Standard: AUD 1,000 per person (student + each family member)
  • Returning to Africa: AUD 1,500 per person
